Welcome To Sanctuary Poster

This poster is a map of Sanctuary showing the layout of the inhabited part of the town with main areas of interest labeled. I created this piece to go at the start of the second issue as a reference for readers when reading the comics, so they can visualise where certain events occur. The poster is in a style resembling a holiday postcard or leaflet. The reader can imagine this is what the main character Alex would receive when he first arrived. This helps to immerse the reader in the story, as they themselves feel like an outsider being invited into this town.

I started the process of creating this poster by exporting an image of a sketch from my sketchbook of the map onto the computer. I put the image onto illustrator, created a border and wrote "Welcome to Sanctuary" at the top and their motto "Peace. Purity. Prosperity" (Purity referring to their discrimination against cyborgs, mutants, demons and other un-natural creatures.)
I made the map image the top layer and made it transparent. This allowed me to trace the map and add all the details and colours on illustrator using the pen tool.
When I finished that I had to add labels to all the important locations I had labeled on the original sketch.
The last step was to add a transparent image over the top to create a dull filter and a creased paper effect. This was really effective as it looks like it has been folded in half and this adds to its old and worn look.
